"The Queens Huddle remains opposed to any  "Unity" deal between the Official Democratic Conference and the Independent Democratic Conference.  We've seen this movie before.  The IDC promises to rejoin and then they don't. The IDC/GOP alliance and Governor Cuomo's complicity left a lot of work undone this past legislative session: Early Voting, Automatic Voter Registration, Ethics Reform...The list goes on and on.  We are pleased that Senator Klein is going to be Senator Stewart-Cousins' deputy and not the co-leader.  Why should the rightful leader of the Democratic Conference have to share her position with anybody?  We also believe that primaries are a healthy  part  of the democratic process.  The IDC must be voted out.  All. Of. Them.

The Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) is a group of 8 New York State Senators who were elected as Democrats but have a power-sharing agreement with the Senate Republicans.  NYS Senate Democrats have a 32 to 31 seat majority in the Senate.  The IDC is the reason John Flanagan (R) is the Senate Majority Leader instead of Andrea Stewart-Cousins the current Senate Minority Leader.

Senator Tony "I signed on to it" Avella represents NYSD 11.  He represents College Point, Whitestone, Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston, Beechhurst, Malba, Auberndale and Floral Park.  He was elected to office in 2010. Tony Avella joined the IDC in February 2014.
